What to do

  1. If the person was 18 or older when the intimate image was created and is currently an adult, review StopNCII eligibility.
  2. If the image or video was taken when the person was under 18, review NCMEC’s Take It Down service.
  3. Use only an image or video already on your device; do not download a copy just to submit it.
  4. Keep website-removal and search-removal steps open because hash protection applies only on participating services.
  5. Continue verifying known public links and report altered or non-matching reposts separately.
Hash protection is not a universal internet deletion tool. StopNCII and Take It Down depend on participating platforms and each service has its own eligibility rules.

StopNCII and Take It Down state that hashing occurs on the device and the underlying image or video is not uploaded to the service.

Which service applies to images taken under 18?

Does hashing remove every copy online?

No. Participating platforms can act on matching hashes; other websites, altered copies and search results may require separate action.
